Internships

more information...

ITFlorida's mission is to make Florida a leader in high tech advancement by serving as an umbrella organization comprised of both public and private technology leaders for high tech industry in the state, providing guidance to the state on technology issues and initiatives, guiding the Governor, the Legislature and Enterprise Florida on the strategic technology direction and initiatives of the state and working to ensure the successful integration of technology infrastructure statewide.

In its short history, ITFlorida has a rich legacy of making definitive policy statements regarding high tech industry in the state. PDF copies of these reports can be found at www.itflorida.com/policy. ITFlorida is continually monitoring and revising this part of its mission by creating white papers and other policy recommendations. Interns are an integral part of the research and writing of these papers.

ITFlorida relies on a framework of advisory boards to formulate policy positions on specific issues and then to forward for approval to our board of directors. We are seeking interns who would be able to support each of these advisory boards by conducting research and writing drafts of policy statements. ITFlorida is able to provide evaluation of performance for those students interested in gaining academic credit. Further, ITFlorida is happy to provide references for those students who are interested in including such an internship on their resumes. The advisory boards conduct quarterly (or monthly, as needed) teleconferences and communicate by email. Interns are not required to travel, but are welcome to attend any ITFlorida events they are able to coordinate with their schedules.

ITFlorida seeks interns each year to assist from a period roughly from January through May, from June through August, and from September through January. Specific dates can be flexible if a situation warrants. There may be opportunities for additional internships beyond these time periods. The amount of work required is approximately 10 hours per week (or equivalency for 3 semester hours of academic credit). Interns report to the ITFlorida executive director, who monitors their activities, provides regular guidance and direction, and issues a final grade for academic credit.

Expected tasks include:
  • participating in Advisory Board teleconferences and recording summaries of discussion
  • conducting research on policy issues identified by Advisory Boards
  • recommending to executive director new policy ideas to be addressed by ITFlorida
  • drafting policy statements, ranging in size from specific sections to complete white papers, as determined by the executive director
